I had to change feed AGAIN!!!

Postby RosePatch on Mon Oct 20, 2008 7:12 pm

Dangit, double dog dangit!!!! :temper: FINALLY three years ago I got my goats switched from Purina feed to Country Acres medicated pellets and I'll be doggone if the one freakin' store I could buy it has quit selling it! It comes from Knoxville TN and they don't get a truck from there now (they're located in Abingdon, VA).
Soooooooooooo, I bought two bags of their "goat mix". Thankfully when I opened it it wasn't dripping in molasses and it's mainly pellets with a tiny bit of oat looking thingies and a tiny bit of cracked corn. Here is what the label says:
GOAT MIX
Active Drug Ingredient:
Decoquinate 0.5% (2270 mg/lb)
GUARANTEED ANALYSIS
crude protein- not less than 14%
crude fat- not less than 2.0%
crude fiber- not more than 15%

Ingredients
grain products, processed grain by-product, plant protein product, molasses products, limestone, salt, ammonium chloride, pellet binder (lignin sulfonate), calcium carbonate, vitamin 3 supp., vitamin d3 supp., vitamin a supp., zinc sulfate, manganese sulfate, iron sulfate, ethylenediamine dihydroicodide, copper sulfate, sodium selamite, cobalt carbonate, calcium iodate.

Whatcha think??

Looks to be a pretty basic maintenance feed. Has added calcium (limestone, calcium iodate, calcium carbonate ) so they are aware of the phos to calc ratio needs, but does not say what the percentage is. It does have AC. I prefer a higher fat content (I like mine 3 to 5 % ) but then I am trying to push weight onto show goats and market animals.

How does it compare to what you were feeding?

Jamie
Look on the bag and let me know where it was milled at...It should be printed on the bag towards the bottom.
The truth will set you free, but first it will piss you off.

It doesn't say, Von. It's in those plain white feed bags and the tag only has the company name and my understanding was it's a feed exclusively for them because the girl said... 'well, we have our own goat mix.....'
All it says is:
MANUFACTURED BY:
Light's Milling Co., Inc.
460 Hagy St
Abingdon, VA 24210

And my goats don't like it.... dangit again....

I don't care to use a feed mix but I have no way of storing it in the summer and it always gets worms and molds. That's why I went to pellets.

Thanks for the info, Kendra!!
