If you are building a basic medicine cabinet for your goats what would you place in it?In listing things assume the following; You do not have a local vet that will readily supply you with medications, so what ever you get has to be gotten from the local feed stores. This list is for those that do not know yet, so give dosages if you know it.
Pen-G (antibiotic)-1cc per 100 pounds-Can be safely doubled, tripled dosage to 4cc per 50 pounds. Often given every 12 hours or every 24 hours.
La200 (antibiotic)-4cc per 100 pounds-normally given every other day, great for the treatment of Pinkeye and some Pneumonia's, also Listerosis, but have found that it isn't as effective. In treatment of Listerosis, must be given every 12 hours. Give SQ, this medicine does sting.
Vitamin A&D-1cc per 100 pounds-suggestions are to give it SQ, but have found IM is better with less side effects. Have heard of it given orally
Vitamin B Complex(fortified if you can find it)-3-5 cc per 60lb. of goat a day as a supportive dose. For polio, dose thiamine at 10mg for every 2.2lbs of body weight every 6 hours for 24 hours.
Cydectin Wormer-1cc per 22 pounds (oral dosage)Valbazen Wormer-1cc per 10 pounds-Do not give to pregnant does.
CD&T (annual vaccine)-2cc regardless of weight. Booster 2cc 2 weeks later. Will cause a knot, but not as often as Covexin-8, make sure it contains Tetenus.
Sulmet Liquid (for coccidiosis)- 10 day treatment; day 1 give 1cc for every 5lbs body weight, day 2 thru day 10 give 1cc for every 10lbs body weight - give orally.
Red Cell (actually for horses but used off label) - 5cc for every 25lbs body weight - used for energy boost, low iron, rapid mineral replacement, and with every antibiotic treatment.
